The Dentist!

I walked happily along to what I thought was my final dentist appointment this morning. It was a cool, cloudy morning and nothing suggested that my expectations would be dashed.

My dentist drilled, polished and filled with efficiency and little drama. "But hey, what's that? Ahhh. Hmm."

These are ominous sounds to someone in the dentist chair.

'Looks like there's another hole down here.' My dentist called her assistant and they peered at my cavity with interest while scraping bit of white gunk out of it. Oh.

I've got two more appointments! Serves me right for not coming to the dentist for over 10 years.

Thanks to my excellent and good humoured dentist and her lovely assistant for the great photo!

The Dentist- the second visit

What will happen. . . Agh

(edit - ok, I'm understanding things.  The first visit to the dentist is to see if it needs pulling out or if you need medication. They give you cheap drugs and send you to the private sector. Then, you need to go, with your aching tooth/teeth to the different dentists around town getting quotes.. Seriously.  It was horrible enough to open my jaws to a stranger, but now I have to do it a few more times to check prices while I have this drilling going on in my right jaw. Seems the nerves are exposed in two places and it will cost 450 euros.... well worth the pain of another week, or not?  I will not swear. Lucky the friggin' alcohol is cheap.)

oh, and oooommmm.

The Face of Someone Going To the Dentist

Oh God, why are you punishing me? Aren't I good?! I honestly hate the dentist. It's been a week now and I've had bad pain in my right jaw. It's time to meet my biggest fear. Someone violating the insides of my mouth. In a white coat and a pointy steel drill in hand. Oh my. . .

Bikini Season Farewells

I guess it's no surprise to you, but I like to eat pastries. You can see cheese cake above. I finally had to admit to myself that the 2 or 3 stops at the bakery a week was more like 5 or 6 and I truly couldn't fit into my old white pants all of last year- so, hence the running and the liver cleanse diet. I'm down to 53 kilos and still have 2 to lose before I'm at my optimal weight. It's going well. But its also time to say goodbye to my sweets. Though I'm sure we'll meet again, just not so frequently.

The Gra

Teenager scare me. And this is their den. It's where 'they' hang out. It is strategically placed across from the church. Coincidence? I think not.

See also K's Fears of Teenagers .

PS - A friend read this and told me they thought it was a bit too harsh and I should let people know I'm joking. Yes. I'm joking. Teenagers don't really scare me. However they do tend to embody the worst of self centered behaviour (as I'm sure I did). Long live the teenager.

The Pavement Stalker

Today, as I was walking along the street with my little trolley on the way to the supermarket, my attention rested on a man whom when he saw me, stopped and hissed through his teeth. I didn't understand the sound, and looked closer at his face. He was smiling in what can only be described as lurid. I ignored him and kept walking.

After a few steps I realised he was following me. In which case I hastened my step, and continued a long the street wondering what I was going to do. If I went to the shops, he could corner me in one of the aisles and to be stuck with such a man in a small area was much worse that being on  a relatively crowded street. I decided, that before I changed my shopping trip strategy, I should be sure if the man was such a creep.

I stopped in front of the fruit and vegetable shop and looked with interest at the oranges on display. The man walked passed, and much to my horror, stopped and turned and started walking towards me hissing.

I turned to him, and said loudly 'stop it. Just stop it.'

He said, in Spanish, that he didn't understand me. I told him to stop it, loudly, and started to turn to passers by in an attempt to embarrass him. He just smiled in such a foul way, I wondered where he came from and for how long he had been doing this for. He was hardened.

I called the attention of two young men walking down the street who stopped and looked at the man. I walked passed them all, and went to a different supermarket a few streets away.

Honestly, I kept looking over my shoulder to see if he was there.

I kept thinking, but, what did he do, actually? Imagine I had to explain to police what happened. And actually, nothing much happened at all. But the feeling he gave me, was oppressive. He had very evil intentions.

Anyway, although I felt unhappy for twenty minutes or so, I was glad I didn't just ignore it. That I faced the man, and said something instead of pretending. I'm not going to walk down the street being afraid, just because of one man.
